Eucalyptus Oil 101 – Top Benefits And Uses

Eucalyptus oil is mainly extracted from leaves of the eucalyptus tree through steam distillation. There are roughly 700 varieties of eucalyptus trees known to man. A good chunk of these trees grow like shrubs. Depending on your location in the world, the eucalyptus tree is also referred to as blue gum tree, fever tree, stringy bark tree and more.

Eucalyptus tree varieties have similar aromas that border on woody to camphoraceous scents. There are aromatic hints of lemon and peppermint to eucalyptus as well. Eucalyptus has been used for centuries for innumerable medicinal benefits. Aboriginal populations of Australia are believed to have used eucalyptus or ‘kino’ (as they called it) first.

The natives used these leaves to heal wounds, keep fevers away, soothe pain and many more. As alluded to above, some communities called eucalyptus the ‘fever tree’ for its notable fever-alleviating benefits. Eucalyptus oil was first distilled in Australia; however, this oil is widely produced across the globe in places like China, Greece, Europe, Brazil among others.
